Prone

This is shot lying down on your stomach using peep sights. The Olympic Distance is 50 meters with 60 scoring shots, but there are some states that run events at 20 meters and 90 meters.



Three Position

Shooter fire scoring shots from three different positions:

Prone - refer above
Kneeling - This is a seated position which allows the shooter to                  use their knee as a support.
Standard - refer below


The Olympic Distance is 50 meters with two events being Free Rifle which is 40 scoring shots at each position and Sport Rifle which is 20 scoring shots at each position.



Standing

This is shot standing on your feet side on to the target. Standing is mainly an Air Rifle event were .177 calibre is used indoors, but it also makes up part of the .22 calibre three position events. The Olympic Distance for Air Rifle is 10 meters  indoors with 40 or 60 scoring shots.



BenchRest

This is shot sitting at a stable bench using scope sights. This is still a developing discipline but the main distance is 50 meters with 60 scoring shots, but there are some states that run events at 20 meters and 90 meters.



Disabled Shooters Events

Shooting is not limited to able body people. All discipline cater for varying levels of disability, and those that do well go onto competing at the Paralympics.
